Petition for annexation update 2/7/22
We hope everyone is staying safe and warm! We had a conversation with the Village of Tijeras on the status of the Rincon Loop area annexation and wanted to bring everyone up to speed on what we know.
It was very apparent that Mayor Burton, Hallie, and Nick have been working hard behind the scenes to move the annexation of our neighborhood forward. Nick and Hallie have been working through the process to certify the petition (which has now been completed with certified signatures from 57% of the acreage's landowners). They have added it to the next Planning and Zoning Commission meeting agenda. In preparation for this meeting, they have also been working with their planning engineer to draw up the proposed zones. This was completed on Monday, January 31st. There are four more major events before this process concludes and are listed below:
February 9th at 6:00 PM - Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting via zoom - https://us06web.zoom.us/j/88213747510?pwd=TTBJYWJQcnF0Y04yUk0rYTExSnZ0dz09

- The Planning and Zoning Commission will make a formal recommendation to the Village Council who will review the details and vote to refer the petition to Bernalillo County Commission.
TBD (likely near the end of March) - Bernalillo County Commission Meeting
- Bernalillo County Commission will review the referral from the Village of Tijeras and vote as it pertains to this annexation petition. As a note, our very own District 5 (East Mountains) Commissioner Charlene Pyskoty is the Chair of this Committee.
- While there is still a significant amount of the process yet to be completed, Mayor Burton has been working hard to make contact with the Bernalillo County Commissioners and other government officials, preparing them for this annexation petition. We want to thank the Village for all of their hard work and if you have any questions pertaining to meeting agendas, times, or accessibility, please reach out to Hallie ([email protected]) or Nick ([email protected]). Warm regards, Cindy Schreiner and Sterling Beeson
Petition for annexation update.
Just a quick update on the annexation petition. It was officially submitted to the Village of Tijeras on 13 December with a majority of the Rincon loop/ Tijeras Land estates area in favor of annexation.
The Village is in the final stages of making sure the petition is correct, that all parcels in the mapped area are accounted for, and that there are signatures from a majority of the acreage. The Village will begin drafting a zoning map for the area that will be presented when the petition comes to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Since APS and NMDOT are within the map boundaries, the Village will be contacting them to inform them of the petition and see how they would like to proceed. They will be doing this concurrently with developing the zoning map.
- Once the Village has been in contact with APS and NMDOT and the proposed zoning map is complete, the petition will be put on a Planning and Zoning Commission agenda (likely one of the two meetings in January).
- The petition will then go to the Village Council for a vote to refer the petition to Bernalillo County.
- Bernalillo County will go through their process of reviewing and approving of the petition.
- If and when it is approved by Bernalillo County, it will come back to the Village Council and be adopted by ordinance.
Please stay tuned as there will be a public council meeting.
Thank you all for your cooperation over the last few months in diligently raising concerns and asking questions as we have all learned what we are to expect if this ordinance is passed.
